MAILOMATIC NAME RESOLUTION
HELP
Name Checking
Although domain names are quite 'checkable', few
commercial servers allow 'finger' requests from unknown perl scripts. That
is, while it is reasonably simple to check whether a domain
actually exists ( ie: mydomain.com.au ) it is very difficult
- if not impossible - to find if a specific user exists (ie:
user@mydomain.com.au).
By sending potential subscribers a 'please confirm' mail, by default
we have checked that the user and domain are valid (fictitious or wrong
addresses will generate a "post-failure" notice to the email account you
put as the "return address" in your configuration script
).
On the user side, it checks that the receipient is actually the one who
wants to subscribe - surely a polite thing to do in this age of unreasoned
spam .
